On the 9th of October, 2025, Turkish Airlines and Air Algérie entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Air Algérie headquarters in Algiers to promote and maintain very close cooperation between the two parties. The MoU is a document that intends to make the strategic partnership stronger. The signing is also expected to add the current codeshare agreement between the two airlines, which has been in place since 2016 on certain routes, to cover more destinations and services which will make it easier to travel between Turkey, Algeria and the world through connecting flights.
The MoU was signed by the chief executives of Turkish Airlines and Air Algérie, Bilal Ekşi and Hamza Benhamouda, respectively. It sets the stage for future collaboration in different sectors with the expansion of their codeshare agreement being the main focus. The latter will enable both carriers to market more places served by their flights. It is anticipated that the current transformations will greatly improve inter-connectivity and, consequently, besides benefiting the movement of the travelers between the two countries and their networks, this will open up new markets in Asia and Africa.
The collaboration between the two airlines goes beyond codesharing and includes other aspects of operational synchronization, such as interline cargo services, aircraft leasing, catering, and ground handling. In such a case, the airlines will use their joint efforts not only to automate their operations but also to raise service quality to the level of being a success for both the customers and the airlines in terms of revenues.
Moreover, the airlines are planning to take part in environmental care and sustainability activities together, which is, of course, a clear indication of their cooperation and mutual support in making flying less harmful to the environment and more natural. The partnership will result in a better understanding and will also make it possible to create and execute training and educational programs that will, in the end, enhance the skills of the staff and raise the capabilities of both firms.
The head of Turkish Airlines, Bilal Ekşi, noted that this agreement was a major milestone in the ongoing partnership of eco-friendly operations between the two airlines. He mentioned Turkish Airlines’ worldwide presence as the airline with the most countries and declared that this bond would bring culture and economy closer together between Türkiye and Algeria while leading to growth for both parties.
Likewise, the head of Air Algérie, Hamza Benhamouda, was excited about the visit of the Turkish Airlines delegation and the significant agreement that was reached which included the new areas of cooperation and sharing of skills. He pointed out that the alliance would be a source of good for the two companies, their customers, and the economies of the two countries through the increased exchange of business and social activities.
Moreover, the allowance for codeshare flights between Türkiye and Algeria has just been increased from 35 to 80 weekly flights, making the connections more varied and frequent by eliminating the restrictions on the airports. The increased capacity together with the enhanced partnership positions both airlines to grab the regional air travel demand that is rising.
